Born in Holland, Jim Visser’s family immigrated to Canada, settling on a farm near Edmonton. Visser studied drawing, printmaking and painting at the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Extension and in 1999 he retired from farming to become a full-time painter. Visser describes painting as a “movement from the heart” and he looks to express the visual soul of an image, moment, or memory. He desires to evoke a mood with his paintings of the prairies or mountains “suggested by the entrance of light and the drama of the sky”. His work has been exhibited in over 35 group and solo shows in the Edmonton region and is represented in corporate, public, and private collections.
