David Shkolny was born in Pinawa, Manitoba but grew up in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. After he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1992, Shkolny eventually returned to Alberta to continue his fine art practice and teach painting and drawing. Shkolny sees the Alberta landscape as a vast canvas that begs for exploration and contemplation. Primarily working in pastel, Shkolny enjoys creating intimate, atmospheric and at times, mysterious landscapes that encourage reflection through space, texture, colour, and form. Shkolny’s artworks are in collections across Europe and North America as well as the Canada Council.
