Cynthia Tang-Yeh

Cynthia was born and raised in Singapore and came to Canada in 1971 to attend the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1975 she worked as a Graphic Designer before discovering the joy of clay.

Today, Cynthia lives in Edmonton and builds functional and artistic pottery and raku inspired by nature. She is a long-time member of the St. Albert Potter’s Guild and has her work represented by several galleries. Her pots are in collections in Asia, the US and Canada.

"In the course of my work as a potter, raku has taught me that firing, no matter how much I glaze, how I fire and reduce, the end result can never be repeated. The unpredictable is what has continuously fascinated me and driven me to seek 'perfection'. But what is perfection? Ther is no utopia. Seek not the end but embrace the journey. So it has been my journey the last 40 years as a clay artist that has defined my life. The art shows in various galleries mean very little to me as I look back. What is important to me is what I do now. I am living my best life today. Celebrating my work now as I dream of what I will do tomorrow."
