Transmission and The Gatherers Reception
Join the Art Gallery of St. Albert on Thursday October 13 to celebrate the opening of our two fall exhibitions: Transmission by Lonigan Gilbert in the main exhibition gallery, and The Gatherers by April Matisz in our vault feature exhibition space.
Both artists will be in attendance. Lonigan will be giving a talk at 7 pm, chatting about his inspirations for Transmission, his artistic practice, and the importance of taking an unflinching and critical look at the pervasive cultures of division that are permeating our present moment.
Transmission by amiskwaciy waskahikan’s (Edmonton) Lonigan Gilbert confronts us with a no-holds-barred, brutally honest assessment of contemporary communication. Riots of colour and text fill the canvas, revealing the Lonigan Gilbert’s observations of our chaotic contemporary world. Within the mess and complexity, Gilbert encourages us to recognize all people as people first.
The Gatherers by Lethbridge’s April Matisz interprets the Greek aphorism “know thyself” as a call to understand our species’ entanglement with our planet. Her jewel tone collages show stylized figures entangled in acts of gathering life-sustaining
