Exhibition: Traditional crafts, stories and practices merge and fracture in Raneece Buddan’s work. A Jamaican visual artist who resides in amiswaciwâskahikan (Edmonton), her practice investigates her identity, history and ancestry through an ever-growing medley of media.Her pieces are a hybrid of the past and present, the artist and her ancestors, celebrating an ever-expanding complexity. Buddan knows her own story through her practice, discovering the joy of being one formed from many.
Join the Art Gallery of St. Albert's curator for an in-depth tour of our current exhibition, learning about the artist's inspirations, creative process, and the stories that guide their incredible work.
Tune in for a short tour of our latest exhibition. Our curator will take viewers through the exhibition, chatting about their artists work and inspiration. The tours are broadcast live on social media, with the recordings available later to fit your schedule.
Join us for an artist-led workshop at the Art Gallery of St Albert and the St Albert Place Visual Arts Studios with Raneece Budden.
We will begin this program at the Art Gallery of St. Albert with a brief tour of Raneece Buddan's exhibition Threading Through Time. Once the tour is complete, a staff member will walk participants to the nearby Visual Arts Studios in St Albert Place, where Raneece will lead a hands-on workshop about block printing on fabric.
Participants will create their block printing designs inspired by a memorable moment with a person or a memorable moment at a special place. Raneece will each participants to print their designs on fabric, which they can later make into simple items like patches, pillowcases or framed artworks. Participants can take their lino block home after the program to continue their printing explorations!

This special artist-led program will begin at the Art Gallery of St Albert with a brief tour of our exhibition Threading Through Time by Raneece Buddan. Once our short tour is complete, we’ll take a quick walk over to the Visual Arts Studios located in St Albert Place, where Raneece will lead a hands-on workshop on lino printing. Homework Letter Press Studio is a small print shop in Edmonton, Alberta that brings joy to you and your loved ones, and inspires connection, through the humble greeting card. Each card is created with quality in mind using 100% cotton paper, and an old-school letterpress machine. Homework’s imagery is inspired by the everyday beauty of nature, the joys of life and childhood tales from artist Daria Hirny's upbringing.Join beading insturctor Maria Nelson at the Little White School to learn the basics of beading using the single needle technique.
Participants will make their own beaded keychain! All materials will be provided— no experience is required. This course is a great opporunity to learn more about St. Albert's rich Métis history while learning a new skill. "I absolutely loved being guided through the activity by someone like Maria! She was very knowledgeable and made everyone feel so comfortable. It was like socializing with some good friends while learning something new!"
